The schedule isn’t finalized, but we want to ensure you know what to expect, especially those joining us for the first time.
Theme for WPCampus 2025
This year’s WPCampus is the first time we’re focusing our call for proposals around a specific theme: The Future of WordPress in Higher Education.
We’re also excited to share and discuss the results from the soon-to-be-released “State of WordPress in Higher Education” survey.
What to expect
WPCampus 2025 is a three-day conference with lectures, community discussions, social events, and networking opportunities. The event will focus on the confluence of WordPress and accessibility in higher education and is designed to support higher ed web teams using WordPress to advance the mission of higher education.
While the format of our event is similar to a WordCamp, our entire program is focused on using WordPress in higher education and creating accessible digital products, which allows for a richer and more fine-tuned experience for our attendees. You’ll never want to miss a session because they’re tailored just for you, a web professional who builds WordPress websites for higher education.
Take advantage of face-to-face discussions with fellow attendees who know what building websites in Higher Ed is like. Share with, learn from, and be inspired by your peers.
Topics for this year’s event
In support of our theme, we are asking our community to answer the following questions:
- What does the future of WordPress in higher education look like for you?
- What functionality do you want for your WordPress websites that does not exist?
- What big ideas do you have for your WordPress websites for the future?
- What would you build for or with WordPress if you had the time and resources?
- What would you change about WordPress to support your needs?
We want our community to dream big and share their ideas to gather feedback and generate discussion. These ideas don’t have to be fully formed or implemented. You don’t have to share a completed project. You can share a vision.
We are also asking our community to share their functional work on the following topics. Share your work and ideas!
- Governance management within WordPress
- Accessibility management within WordPress
- Implemented design systems
- Risk management
- Using WordPress in the classroom
- Training and support
The event format or modality
WPCampus 2025 is an in-person event with complementary hybrid access to an online video stream. Tickets are required for in-person and online attendees.
For past in-person WPCampus events, we have always live-streamed our sessions during the event and published them online (you can access our content in the WPCampus Learning Library). Otherwise, we usually limit most interactions at our in-person events to our in-person attendees due to the breadth of logistical challenges required to host a hybrid event managed solely by volunteers.
Starting with our first conference in 2016, we recognized the exclusive nature of the in-person format. Starting in 2017, we began organizing a second annual conference that is entirely online to make space for more accessible and inclusive content and interactions. After COVID hit, we organized one conference per year, entirely online, in 2020 and 2021. We hope to return to hosting fully online events soon.
The event schedule
The first day (Wednesday)
In the past, we have hosted half-day workshops that required a separate registration and ticket.
For this year’s event, we plan to host content on Wednesday that will be open to all attendees.
We are considering using this time for workshops, hosting social and networking opportunities for attendees, meeting others, and generating discussion. A sort of “unconference” vibe.
We will begin at 1 pm. Lunch will not be provided. We are planning to provide beverages and possibly some light snacks.
After we break for the day, join us for a welcome gathering or reception for registered attendees.
The second day (Thursday)
The second day will be the first full day of the conference.
We plan to open registration at 8 am and begin the main schedule at 9 am. The schedule will end at 5 pm.
Breakfast will not be provided, but we plan to provide beverages, like coffee and water.
We ensure plenty of opportunities for breaks for your mind and body and to chat with other attendees and sponsors.
Lunch will not be provided with this year’s registration fees. The venue is surrounded by a variety of dining options. Attendees will have ample time to gather food from a nearby quick-service location.
After sessions, meet up with new friends for dinner before joining us for our main social event and a fun evening together, networking and making new friends in the community.
The third day (Friday)
The third and last day is another full day and the last day of the conference.
We plan to start at 9 am and end at 5 pm.
Breakfast will not be provided, but we plan to provide beverages, like coffee and water.
Again, we will ensure plenty of opportunities for breaks for your mind and body and to chat with other attendees and sponsors.
Lunch will not be provided with this year’s registration fees. The venue is surrounded by a variety of dining options. Attendees will have ample time to gather food from a nearby quick-service location.
We usually don’t host an official event on Friday night because most attendees have started their journey home. If you’re still in town, make plans with conference friends!
Event Safety and Responsibility
We are committed to providing a safer environment for conference attendees, especially regarding community and public health, and have implemented Event Safety and Responsibility policies.
Code of Conduct
WPCampus seeks to provide a friendly, safe environment. All participants should be able to engage in productive dialogue, share, and learn with each other in an atmosphere of mutual respect and adhere to our Code of Conduct. This applies to all community interactions and events.
